HomeShopping Introduces ‘White Friday’ in Pakistan

Both affiliates of German parent company Rocket Internet, Daraz and Kaymu decided to bring the Black Friday sale in Pakistan. But perhaps they did not expect to face a competition in the form of ‘White Friday’.

Another online vendor for shopping, HomeShopping, also came on the platform, and introduced their deals by calling it ‘White Friday’.

 “Because in Pakistan, Friday is never black.”

HomeShopping’s White Friday page announced.

Homeshopping Pakistan introduces White Friday sales into the country for the first time. The White Friday deals at homeshopping.pk will start from November 27 12 AM and will last till 11:59 AM, which will last for three days. The White Friday deals, bundles and discounts will be available on products from all the categories available at homeshopping.pk. The discounts will be on mobile phones and tablets, computers, laptops, cameras, gaming consoles, home appliances, clothing, perfumes, wrist watches, toys and nearly everything that is listed on the store. There will be up to 70 percent discounts on all items.

The online seller has also created a Facebook event page that raises the religious importance of Friday in Islam.

“In the Muslim world, Friday is the day of prayer, the day of gathering, the day off, the family day, the day of joy, so surely … our Friday is WHITE!”

The event description stated.

Some individuals commented on the page blaming the company of using religious sentiment to stimulate business.

“Well you want to compete with Daraz.pk come up with better deals not the lame lines ‘White Friday’” one user commented. “‪#‎GrowUp and don’t involve religion into your pecuniary lust. ‪#‎PoorMarketing.”

CEO Homeshopping Shayan Tahir said that the company wanted to do something diverse and the purpose was to bring something unique, not to use religion.

“The promotion is on the same day as it is elsewhere.”

Tahir added.

Tahir said that as ‘black’ day in our culture is a sign for disastrous events, it did not make any logic to call it that.

Head of Daraz Communications Saman Javed informed that Black Friday has become a worldwide phenomenon.

“Why should Pakistan not be part of such an incredible global trend?”

She questioned.

“When it comes to sales and discounts, we’re no different, we are true bargain hunters.”

“It’s flattering to see others follow our footsteps.”

She said about HomeShopping’s White Friday sale.

“The magnitude of Daraz’s sale is alarming for other companies and has convinced them that they are in serious trouble if they don’t follow suit.”

Saman Javed further added.
