Technology-Its Positive & Negative Effects on Our New Generation

Technology has revolutionized 21st century, we can claim that we are witnessing the most advance form of digital world. The concept of smart city has started a new age where almost everything can be controlled by a single device. No doubt, technology is affecting us in pluralistic ways but the most important impact it has is on the new generation and it has a totally different story. Despite the countless wonders of technology, there is a dire need to understand the pendulum between negative and positive sides of it. There is huge debate among the experts regarding the effects of technology on child’s growth and development. One group considers it as only way to advancement and success whereas the other is denying so much dependence on technology. To know and understand that the new generation will or will not be the last generation that played outside is hence the focus of this discussion. So what is the impact of technology on the developing child? Recalling the old times, we can say that a mere 20 years ago children used to play outside games like riding bikes, playing sports, building houses with mud etc.

Today things have changed due to “TECHNOLOGY”. Mud-games have been placed by tablets and cell phones; the world of technology is taking them away from real life adventures. Technology’s impact on new generation is actually fracturing its basic foundations. Internet, TV, social media and mobile phones have influenced the young generation in many ways.

Adults are now even following language and dressing styles from these high-tech cultural trends. Due to mobile phones we neglect our close ones just to keep in touch with strangers. Gone is dining room table conversation, and replaced by the “big screen” and take out. Due to technology we are technically moving away from each other as the chaotic nature of techno-world has confused the young generation. Children are now more inclined towards iPads, cell phones, tablets and laptops as compared to traditional games.

In such situation it is important to come together as parents and teachers to help society “wake up” and understand the over whelming effects technology is having on the new generation. These mainly include physical, psychological effects and even the social in ability to sustain family relationships and behaviours. Time and tide waits for none and neither does technology, these advancements will never stop and no one can argue about the benefits of advanced technology in today’s world. But to help and guide the new generation for its correct and beneficial use is also very important.

In a net shell, we cannot say that technology is all bad. Technology is essential to compete in this high tech world only when it is used in the right way and children can also benefit from many advantages of it. Their learning process can be enhanced by it as now knowledge is just a click away.

The social side can also help them to be socialized, build confidence and improve their interpersonal skills. The basic idea behind this article is to highlight the fact that there is a need to take benefit from technology in a balanced way while avoiding the many traps and side effects it brings.
