Mobile Phone Imports Reach US $ 375m During the First Half of Current Fiscal year

Mobile phone import has shown increase in Pakistan as compared to the last fiscal year. It has reached to US $ 375.063 million during the first half of present fiscal year i.e. from July to December; while showing 7.9% increase in the imports from last year. Mobile phone import remained US $ 347.564 million in last fiscal year.

Although the overall telecom imports experienced a huge decline of 7.43% during the July- December of 2015-16 as compared to the same period in the last year and total imports were recorded as US$ 695.334 million compared to US $ 751.124 million in same period last year. This mainly happened to the high telecom taxes that the Government implemented due to which the industry has and still suffering.

The rest of import of telecom apparatus also experienced a decline of 20.64% as it were US $ 403.56 million during last fiscal year but unfortunately now reached to US $ 320.271 million (July-December, 2015-16).

These indicators are mentioned by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday according to the fiscal year calculations.
