Mobile phone is now an integral part of our lives as it is the fastest source of communication in today’s world. More than half of the population around the world is connected in 2016 through this small gadget; indicating a heavy usage of mobile phone. This excessive usage has enabled mobile phone manufacturing companies to generate heavy incomes from this industry. The rise in cell phone penetration on monthly basis is another indicator of how rigorously this industry is growing and becoming fundamental contributor to the national exchequer.

As each year is marked with many essential changes in the technology sector of Pakistan. Gone are the days when there was single mobile brand in Pakistan as now multiple international as well as local brands have jumped into the competition. A smartphone as affordable as 5,000 Rs. is available in the Market. Amazingly, Pakistan is the only country of the world where a local mobile phone brand “QMobile” is leading the market from last few years.

Similarly, talking specifically about 2016, we have come to know that many changes occurred during this year in the mobile phone market of Pakistan. Along with the entry of many new brand, some preexisting brands are struggling to survive as they failed to cope up with the latest technological trends. One new player that joined the league of competition is “Alcatel” which is recently launched in Pakistan. Whereas, 2016 also proved unlucky for some brands like SONY, Club Mobile, MMobile, VIGO Tel, RIVO, GRIGHT and OPHONE that are almost closed in Pakistan. GFive, which has recently started local assembling of mobiles, is still focusing on Punjab area as its target.

Two brands that aggressively jumped into the Pakistani smartphone market “OPPO” and “INEW” didn’t maintained their place in the market well and are presently in struggling position to survive reason being that they didn’t rely on any distributor for their distribution. The only smartphone and feature phone brand “QMobile” that has successfully maintained its market share and leading the market with approximately 50% shares.

Two international brands “Samsung” with 15% market share and “Huawei” are at tough competition with each other. “Huawei” is getting more market share day by day in 4G smartphones which is 1/4th of the market.

In order to lead the market, the brands devise different and unique strategies while launching their mobile phones. Similarly, Infinix was launched by DARAZ.PK while targeting the young generation as it is only available online but still doing better job.

Another brand, “Microsoft” tried its best to keep pace with the market by launching many devices but unfortunately didn’t convinced the Android dominated market. One same brand “LENOVO” is also slowly making its place in the market as it is slow in marketing but still getting better market share.

Not only this, mobile operators also entered in to the device market by launching their phones but unfortunately they badly failed. Both “Telenor” and “Jazz X” are flopped because of their low quality and specifications mobile phones.

All these changes indicates that the Pakistani mobile market has the potential to further grow in coming days as mobile brands are enthusiastically entering in to this market. Hope so that soon Pakistan will manufacture its own smartphones with a proud tag of “Made in Pakistan” on it.
