Growing E-Commerce: Pakistan to Have 40 Million Smartphones by the End of 2016

In Pakistan, 3G and 4G mobile phones users have increased which takes the count to 14.6 million according to the estimate taken in July 2015. The users continue to grow which leads to demand of smartphones. Smartphones is the top selling category across all major e-commerce platforms. Market sources claim that less than 20% of Pakistan’s monthly mobile phone imports includes smartphones. Though this percentage is likely to change in a couple of years.

Keeping in view this growing demand of smartphones, major industry players from telecom operators to mobile phone makers and e-commerce platforms have associated with Google to help in online trade by offering special discounts on mobile phone purchases just before Eidul Azha.

Google’s Tech Mela, the 10-day event, which will go live on September 11, is an online shopping festival which brings many new phones launched recently at discounted prices and deals from major mobile phone brands.

Said Homeshopping.pk Chief Executive Officer Shayaan Tahir in a recent interview.
