Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review

After the launch of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4 is ready to continue the Redmi Series. Xiaomi is now officially launched in Pakistan and available for the public. 2016 has been a great year for Xiaomi due to Note 3. The company managed to sell 3.6 million Note 3, allowing Xiaomi to cross $1 billion in revenue from the country.

With different companies releasing new phones every day, Xiaomi faced a lot of challenges and to overcome that, it had to come up with an upgraded phone with better specs and features. Xiaomi Redmi follows the footsteps of its predecessor but is a little pricier version.

The “pricier” edition comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD panel with 2.5 D curved glass. It has a 13 MP back camera with dual-tone LED flash and a 5 MP front camera and supports the video resolution of 720 pixels. It also has a powerful battery of 4100 mAh that lasts for a really long time. Audio, video music player, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM radio, hotspot are also there. A processor of 2 GHZ Octa-core is there to make your phone run really fast.

Design and Display of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 looks a lot like Note 3 from the front side precisely. It is an all-metal phone with 2.5 D curved glass edges. The metal body definitely adds up to the weight, therefore 175 grams heavy it turned out to be. It comes with the dimensions of 151 x 76 x 8.4 mm, a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen with ~72.7% screen-to-body ratio which is pretty good.
On the front side we obviously have an earpiece on the top center of them phone and notification light and camera being around it. The front side is all covered with bezel layers on all four edges. Whereas the three function keys are there on the very bottom.
Talking about the edges, we have volume and power button on the right edge and that’s it. Since the back of the phone is non-removable therefore we have the Sim and memory port outside on the left edge. You need a SIM ejector to open it and pull out the two-card tray. You can place either two SIMs or swap (micro+nano) the nanoSIM with a microSD card.
On top, you get the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, the secondary mic and the IR blaster. Whereas, on the bottom edge, microUSB port with speakers on its sides are there.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has a luxury metal appearance that gives a very classy look when held in hands. Lastly, we will talk about the back side of the phone. The device has a non-removable back with diamond-cut lines on the side – it’s a small detail, but these shiny lines draw the eye.
The main 13MP camera is on the back equally opposite to the round fingerprint sensor, with a dual-LED, dual-tone flash. The fingerprint reader is depressed, making it easy to find with a finger.
The antenna lines were made with nano-injection casting, which modernizes the look of the phone but more significantly improves the performance of the antennas. On the very bottom of the phone, the logo of “Xiaomi” is engraved.

Memory for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

As far as the memory is concerned, Xiaomi Note 4 packs a 3GB RAM and a 32 GB of ROM. This is a standard edition but surely a great combo. Storage of data, files, music, games, apps or movies won’t be a problem. For excessive data storage, the phone supports an expandable memory of up to 128 GB via SD card.

Rear Camera of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

The Phase detection autofocus feature (PDAF) improves the focus of the camera. Low-light shots have good detail, though on zooming in one can see the pixel breakage. The Redmi Note 4 was also able to take good photos of moving subjects. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has a 13MP main camera with an f/2.0 aperture and phase detection autofocus and dual-LED, dual-tone flash and top out at 1080p video. The 13-megapixel rear camera of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 can take some good landscape pictures in high and low-light situations both. Macro shots also appear good, with proper color.

It can record videos in full HD 1080p quality. Additionally, the camera comes with some built in modes like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama

Front Camera of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

The selfie camera has a 5MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture, but the top video resolution it supports is 720p. You can take outstanding superb pictures in low as well as in high light. At the same time the camera gives you the option of further beautifying your pictures with the help of the beauty face feature.

When Beautify mode is on, you can have the phone guess your age and gender as well. You can take pictures or talk to your loved ones via front camera.

Network / Connectivity of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

You can call Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 a “sometimes dual-SIM phone”. It all depends on whether you need extra storage. You get fast Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac with Wi-Fi screen sharing option along with Bluetooth version 4.2.

The IR blaster gives the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 control over your home equipment this include things like cameras, fans and others.

Battery Performance of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has a 4,100mAh battery which is more than that in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. If you use two SIMs, then the Note 4 Battery power drops to 70 hours.

It gives you a good 3G talk time, web browsing and 1 video play back time. The battery performance overall is good and up to the mark.  It can last for up to 2 days and with heavy usage, it survives a day and a half. The charger does not support quick charging which is definitely a weak point here.

Interface of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

Xiaomi Mi Max has a 6.4 inch HD IPS Touchscreen and runs the latest version of MIUI 8, which is built on top of an Android 6.0 core.  The colors have been managed in a great way since they are all bright and therefore icons are clearly visible. Brightness, at the same time can also be managed easily. You can access the brightness adjustment level bar when you swipe the screen down.

Starting from the lock screen, no wallpapers are set by default but you can set one by going to the settings and choosing a wallpaper for the phone. To unlock the phone, you swipe upwards and if you want a quick access to the camera – just swipe from the right side. At the same time the fingerprint unlock is available that is available just below the camera. The sensor is always working so you just need to put your finger on it and it will unlock.

Home screen is managed very decently as it is not jammed in because of extra icons. On the home screen, we have access to all social sites, settings, contacts, phone dial and messages etc. The home screen has four customization at the bottom by default, but you can put up to five items. You can have any app there or even folders with multiple items if you want.

The notification area is given a little makeover. On top, it has a Google search bar that lets you search for apps and settings on the phone. On the right of this search bar is a shortcut for the Scanner, which deals in QR codes, bar codes and business cards. You can also translate text or scan documents with the same app.

Processor of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

The Xiaomi Note 4  has 2.0 GHZ octa core processor which is based on the architecture of ARM Cortex-A53. It has qualcomm chipset Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625, which supports HD resolutions and it is fulfilling that.

Conclusion for Xiaomi Redmi Note 4:

We personally think that Xiaomi Note 4 is all in all a great device with some amazing features. The tests that we carried out are a proof in that case. This device is a good addition to the smartphone market in Pakistan. But the problem arises when take a look at the smartphone competition in the market. There are many other better and better phones available in the market that will hide Xiaomi’s availability therefore, instead of bringing the same old features that we get in any other smartphone, Xiaomi needs to come up with something new and unique that directly captures the market.
